C#/C/C++Embedded Software and Hardware Engineer

Location: Redmond, WA
Contract Position


Looking for Software Development Engineers who are willing to take on the wide array of challenges posed by a test suite framework. For the developer with an interest in consumer electronics devices, the test suite framework offers an opportunity to code as close to the metal as one can get by writing low-level routines for testing the CPU, GPU, memory, hard drive, DVD drive, and other components of our devices.
It will be your responsibility to perform a "deep dive" into the products manufactured and learn them from end to end. As such, you will be expected to have advanced embedded programming skills and extremely high bandwidth, being able to quickly understand, contribute to, and improve the software solutions that we develop. You will be expected to solve complex technical issues, establish patterns and practices, and provide technical leadership to the entire team.


Requirements:

Five plus years of software development experience using C/C++/C#.
Recent C# and .NET Framework experience is required.
Knowledge of embedded programming and computer hardware concepts is required.
Direct experience developing software for one of our current devices, XBOX 360, Zune HD, or Surface, is a plus.
Knowledge of scripting languages, such as JavaScript, is a plus.
Knowledge of ASP.NET is a plus.
Proven ability to execute in all phases of the software development life cycle, resulting in high-quality software, delivered on time.

Demonstrated ability to work in a self-directed manner, seeking out areas that need attention, rather than being asked to look at specific problem areas.
Outstanding technical problem solving skills and a passion to solve hard problems.
Exceptional communication skills which includes clear written and verbal communication as well as the ability to listen effectively.
Experience with Agile software development practices is a plus.
Experience with a hardware manufacturing environment is a plus.
B.S. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering. A M.S. in one of these fields is a plus.

This position is of interest to someone wishing to join a small team providing a full range of support activities to both an internal & external business user community. This role also includes some tasks normally associated with a DBA role; some tasks involve rescuing a damaged SQL database.

Reporting directly to the Technical Services Group Team Leader, this position is responsible for system infrastructure on specific system platforms. The Technical Support Analyst is a technical specialist with in-depth knowledge of Microsoft operating systems, utilities and subsystems.

This position is a Tier II/III level position but includes Tier I level responsibilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and performance management activities ensuring that the system platforms provide service levels required by the applications. The candidate must have experience with customer phone support and have excellent verbal communication and written skills.

Responsibilities:

• Provide Tier I-III technical support for internal and external business users of the employers network & systems.
• When required, participate in planning and performance management activities ensuring that the system platforms provide service levels required by the applications.
• Maintain production SQL Server databases using Microsoft SQL Server which includes data fixes, query knowledge and database administration
• Managing server/desktop hardware, operating systems and host applications. This includes administration, installation and problem resolution.
• Managing system changes and tools. This includes installing, activating, verifying, performing change back-out and recovery.
• Developing and publishing server/workstation backup and recovery procedures.
• Maintaining Company’s Wide Area Network which includes over 400 sites connected via VPN technologies. Must create and maintain detailed documentation of systems and Network infrastructure.
• Perform preventative maintenance activities on all systems.
• Assisting in the development, testing and maintenance of the IT disaster recovery procedures.
• Other duties as required

Personal Characteristics:

• The candidate must have a talent for analyzing problems, developing and simplifying procedures and finding innovative solutions
• Must be a self starter and is able to prioritize regularly scheduled service activities along with urgent, often unscheduled, support requests with a high level of responsiveness.
• Proven ability to motivate and work both independently and in a team environment
• Excellent verbal communication and written skills.

Education and Experience:

• Technical school degree or equivalent.
• Microsoft certification is preferred, but not required based on level of experience.
• 3-5 years of experience in a technical support and training environment.
• Strong knowledge of Network Infrastructure, TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, WINS etc.
• A good understanding of the business, industry and technical trends is an important asset
• Familiarity with switches and routers
• Previous experience with customer phone support is required

(Platform and Software Knowledge):

• Strong knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server (Oracle Associated database maintenance, support and query knowledge is an asset).
• Solid knowledge and experience in T-SQL programming
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Window Server/Desktop Operating Systems
