Job Description
OpenMarket is currently seeking Java developers to design, build, configure, and test application software that will be part of the OpenMarket platform. The OpenMarket platform is a service oriented architecture solution consisting of a growing number of web services such as: billing, SMS, MMS, and reporting. As a developer at OpenMarket you will work on a small, dedicated service team which is responsible for the design, development and maintenance of the service. You will ensure your service will be able to scale while maintaining high performance in a 99.99% uptime environment. The technology stacks and build environment vary by service, but may include technologies such as: Hibernate, spring, JMS, JMX, Tomcat, Maven, MySQL and Linux.
Some off-hours/on-call support may be required in a “last tier” support capacity.
Position is located in Downtown Seattle, overlooking Elliott Bay, within walking distance of Pike Place Market.
Requirements:

• Expert Java server-side software design and development. Solid core Java and multithreading experience required.
• Very strong database experience. Strong data modeling and SQL skills required.
• Solid experience implementing complex Web-based systems in high volume enterprise-class environments.
• Experience with XML. XML binding (JAXB, JibX, etc) experience desired.
• Experience with SOA and enterprise application integration technologies and patterns strongly preferred. REST experience preferred.

Job Description:

Our client, a Canadian based provider of insurance & financial services is looking to hire an intermediate to senior desktop support technician to compliment their existing staff.

The responsibilities are as follows:

1) Desktop Support - 40%
- Installs, maintains and supports PC HW and peripherals within IS standards and guidelines
- Installs new SW or approved upgrades for clients within IS standards and guidelines
- Relocates existing HW as determined by client requirements
- Maintains the corporate hardware and software inventories
- Arranges for repair of equipment under warranty. May repair or arrange scheduling for repair of out-of warranty equipment
- Manages the voice and data cable plant & connections to the desktop
- Applying updates and fixes to NWL core images and SW as provided by the System Administrator

2) Help Desk Level 2 Support - 50 %
- Actively involved in diagnosing and resolving end-user problems in a timely fashion, through problem identification, isolation and resolution.
- Recommends system modifications to System Administrator to reduce user problems. Assign more complex problems to System Administrator for advance help and/or fixes.
- Provides support and guidance to end-users in the use of hardware and software.

3) Other - 10%
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Maybe required to assist other team members meet project targets dates or backlogs
- Participates in the relevant technical walk-through sessions
- Provides guidance to Desktop Support Technician and occasionally may perform a project lead role for small departmental support and/or enhancement projects.
- Actively involved in improving group processes, standards and checklists.
- Maybe involved in assisting with the research, development and maintenance of group standards and checklists.
- Makes suggestions to improve or revise standards and procedures as required.
- Occasionally may be required to provide after-hours support for projects.
- Assists Technical Services Lead to maintain the SW and Manuals library
- Keeps informed of new developments in computer technologies by researching on the internet, reading and taking courses
- Liaises with vendors and consultants on behalf of IAP for resources, equipment and /or technical assistance

Qualifications
- 2-5 years of work experience as Desktop Support Technician, preferably in a Client/Server environment with >100 clients
- Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written
- Relevant diploma program or equivalent technical training
- Successful completion of LOMA 1 & 2 or willing to obtain
- Good knowledge of and experience with PC HW & SW and Networking concepts.
- Good understanding of mainframe connectivity and data communications.
- Good working knowledge of Windows98, Office, Access, NT WS and SMS for SW inventory and distribution.
- Ability to prioritize and complete several concurrent tasks to meet changing deadlines, priorities, and requirements.
- Ability to work in a team to accomplish scheduled tasks.
- Ability to clearly and concisely prepare and communicate information both verbally and in writing with co-workers and users.
- Ability to read and listen effectively to clarify/confirm understanding to meet objectives.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers and users, sometimes under extremely stressful situations.
- Ability to deal effectively with all levels of staff.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with external entities, such as suppliers, Vendors and Parent Company
- Ability to use a systematic approach in solving problems through gathering and analyzing - available information.

Primary
* 30% of the position involves designing, coding, documenting, and testing Enterprise Software based on specifications and conforming to the Scrum methodologies. Components include, but are not limited to: Datapages (dynamic web pages), SQL scripts, Active Reports, Business Objects and Custom Web Controls.

* 10% of the position involves working closely with Business Analysts to identify and analyze technology needs and problems; attending/facilitating fact gathering sessions, analyzing problems for pieces of the application; solving problems with minimal assistance.

* 10% of the position involves continuous improving, refactoring, benchmarking & performance tuning, leveraging industry available tools, coding templates and developing & following best practices.

* 10% of the position involves developing & reviewing code with others, suggesting ways to improve code and mentoring other developers.

* 10% of the position involves assisting other teams as needed to complete a release and maintain the quality of the system and documentation. In addition to the responsibilities listed above, work with other teams may include assisting with workload planning, facilitating, QA testing, developing database changes, updating specifications, troubleshooting help desk items and working directly with clients to resolve issues.

* 10% of the position involves performing data flow diagramming and/or process modeling as well as reviewing such items for other developers or assisting them as needed.

* 10% of the position involves assisting with pre-release and release processes including final testing, correcting, release documenting and facilitating / coordinating the process.

* 5% of the position involves actively participating as a member of a small, cross-functional, integrated development team. Team activities include but are not limited to: workload planning, estimating, and developing detailed plans, tracking accomplishments, participating in team meetings and status reporting. May also include acting as team representative.

* 5% of the position involves assisting with writing and reviewing specifications for application components.

Qualifications

* Bachelor degree, Associate degree or completion of an accredited vocation training program in an information technology program which includes completion of course work in at least one programming language.

* Minimum 5 years systems development experience in a business environment.

* Advanced skills in the following: ASP.NET, VB.NET, Visual Studio, Visual Basic, Visual Source Safe, ASP, HTML, DHTML, VBScript, transact SQL, MS SQL Server and Active Reports. Experience with Team System highly desired.

* Advanced skills with relational database concepts and database management systems.

* Strong interest and/or experience in Scrum and Agile methodologies.

* Positive attitude regarding new technology and the effect of that on continual change in the work place.

* Ability plan, manage and track own work. Ability and desire to work with highly motivated and dynamic team of peers and contribute effectively to the synergy of that team.
